Yahoo Site Explorer, Google Site Explorer, and MSN Webmaster Center

Today my SEO/SEM buddy turned me on to some of the webmaster tools being offered by Google, Yahoo, and MSN. He suggested that setting this site up in them and submitting the sitemaps may expedite the time it takes for my site to start getting crawled/indexed. As far as I can tell, all three of these provide tools to give you detailed information about how their search engines view your website, plus much more.

The installation process is about the same for all three:

  1. Create an account (if you don’t already have one)
  2. Enter your website information (url)
  3. Download or create a file that you put in the public root directory of your website which contains your website key information.
  4. Wait for your site to get authenticated by the system.

Once your site is authenticated you can submit the url to your sitemap.xml file. This detailed sitemap file will let the search engines know about all the links on your website so that you can be sure that they are all getting crawled.

Once your website has been indexed you will be able to see detailed information about which pages have been indexed, which pages have been crawled, which search queries most often returned results from your site and much more.

Here are the direct links to the Website Management Tools for the top Search Engines:

I’ll post more details later on once I get spidered in the future and can actually see some information :)
